Just recently, BMW introduced the R nineT / 5. Now follows already the first driving test on the above all the comfort of the special model surprised.
White and blue, if you like the Bavarian national colors, determine the look of the new anniversary model of the R nineT. Just as they did with the ancestress in 1969, when BMW relocated motorcycle production from Munich to Berlin-Spandau. Today, exactly 50 years later, the special model R nineT / 5 is supposed to build on the success of the line-five series launched at that time - technically, of course, matured and significantly more modern.
Puristic cockpit
Although the engine of the R nineT / 5 is meanwhile already nine years old, after all, BMW, like the other five model variants of the R nineT, relies on the air-cooled boxer of the 2010 GS. With a clear left twist comes to life, shakes the longitudinally installed boxer engine tight 110 hp via cardan to the rear wheel, his lush torque convinced in the test drives in the Taunus as expected with pressure from every situation.
Exactly why the non-existent (but optionally available) tachometer will probably be missed just as little as a gear indicator. Instead, a single, analogue tachometer with a small LCD unit in the center of the black-framed round headlight emblazoned to display miles driven, the engine temperature or the time. The cockpit thus looks puristic, and in fact it is used in exactly the same form also in the model variant R nineT Pure.
Seating comfort
Incidentally, the dash-5 has a lot in common with this R nineT Pure: wheelbase (1,493 millimeters), steering head angle (63.4 degrees) and caster (105.0 millimeters) are just as identical as the axially bolted Brembo calipers and the conventional 43er -Telegabel - but now decorated with stylish Bellows. The fork with its 125 mm travel is not adjustable, but in combination with the active seating position always conveys a secure feeling for the ground. Also adjustable in spring base and rebound damping strut reported in the standard vote quite unabashedly from any potholes; a new quilted and elegantly decorated seat provides extra comfort in the / 5. She likes sporty-active driving style as well as on longer tours or with Sozia, her slim silhouette also allows even short-term people a secure footing.
Also unlike the Pure, but in line with the standard nineT, the new rolls on 17-inch wire-spoke wheels. The factory-assembled Metzeler Roadtec Z8 Interact conveyed a harmonious impression during the test drives, guiding the Stroke 5 cleanly straight ahead, reliably around the curve and slip-free even with a motivated throttle grip. And all this with always entertaining, but never overly intrusive soundscape - and a look that justifies the extra charge over the Pure, together with the equipment upgrades. For example, it also shares the polished rear silencer with the higher-priced R nineT; a unique selling proposition for the new R nineT Dash-5 is also the chrome-plated rear-view mirror. Despite the vibrations emanating from the combustion processes in the 1,170 cubic engine, the mirrors return a perfectly perceptible view.
Many customization options
The BMW R nineT / 5 is also a successful quote from the past, while at the same time offering interested parties the opportunity to customize the bike according to their own ideas. In addition, BMW offers numerous accessories, ranging from brushed windshield to sports silencer to an alternative fork bridge with stubby core or a single seat. Also available is an optional anti-theft alarm system.
In the basic equipment for 14,600 euros, the dash-5 already has the previously charged, ASC called traction control and is therefore also priced between the BMW R nineT Pure (from 12,450 euros) and the standard R nineT (from 15,350 euros), at the same time it is but also more expensive than the other model variants R nineT Scrambler (from € 13,150), R nineT Urban G / S (from € 13,150) and R nineT Racer (from € 13,450).
