Marquez: This title is even better than the 2014 title
Mark Marquez, the newly-crowned MotoGP champion, said the 2019 crown was even better than his advance to the 2014 title when he won the first 10 races of the season.

With 13 wins, 13 pole races, 12 fastest laps and 362 points, the 2014 Marquez season is still the most powerful in terms of statistics, but several other measurements may be overcome this season.

The 26-year-old made a perfect season after completing all the races - except for the Austin race in which he fell - in the top two, already collecting nine wins and winning the title four rounds before the end of the season.

Marquez described this year as his best season in the MotoGP so far as a result of increased competitiveness, as the 2014 season saw dominance by Honda and Yamaha manufacturers, while four different bikes managed to win this year.

"This is my best season in the MotoGP," Marquez said. "It is true that I won 13 wins in 2014, but speaking in all honesty there was a big difference between the manufacturers' level, the bikes."

"We are in a very competitive category now with four manufacturers competing to win," he said.

He added: "But yes, our performance was very consistent, especially after we focused a lot on its weaknesses and covered and survived very well in difficult races."

“I want to thank all my team as it is easy for the cyclist to maintain the motivation, but the team has a lot of people and it is not easy to maintain the same state of mind for all the mechanics and keep the same focus.”

“They can do it, and that's one of the most important things.”

After securing the 2019 title, the 2015 season is still the only time Marquez has failed to win the MotoGP title.

The Spaniard said that performance was the main problem at the time, after falling in six races, but he has worked to improve this aspect since then, reaching its peak through a record stability in 2019.

"Sometimes you need to step back one step in order to go two steps forward," Marquez said when asked about his only defeat by Motorsport.com.

"Then I said, 'Well, what is my weakness? Is it stability? I try to work every year, but it is difficult to change from year to year.'"

"Especially this year, my strongest point was stability. That means a lot about how we work with the team."
